Gone! Ice is officially out on Regina Bay.

It's official. At 6:00 pm May 4th, all of Regina Bay is free of ice. What a great sight to see open water again. Now we know that summer is just around the corner!

Congratulations to Jerry Kehr for his winning submission of 2:00 pm on May 4th in the 2009 ice out contest. Jerry is the proud winner of a $50 gift certificate towards Resort wear here at Tomahawk. Great guessing work Jerry!

Would also like to thank all of you for your ice out submissions and guess work. With all the great guesses and some very close ones, it was getting quite interesting over the past couple of days. Thanks to everyone who has been watching the photo's on the site, and to keep checking back for more photo updates!

Not much left out in front of the docks

The temps have really warmed up and at 60 degrees already. We have a light southeast wind which has been slowing pushing the ice towards the north shore. As the morning went on, the ice was becoming less and less. These are photo's as of 12:30 pm thisafternoon. It should be free of ice by thisevening.

The ice is really close to going. These pictures were taken between 3pm and 5pm this afternoon, only 3 hours after the previous post for May 3rd, and then again a 7 tonight. The ice was black earlier this afternoon, and by late afternoon had turned white. The winds have died tonight and supposed to be warm tomorrow, so with a little help of a breeze, Regina Bay should be clear of ice by mid day tomorrow.

May 3rd Ice Conditions

Really starting to break up now

The ice has really changed colour today and turned black. When it gets this colour it's completly rotten and honeycombed all the way through, so a good indication that it's ready to go. Temps today are in the mid 40's but again a brisk northwest wind. The wind has helped quite a bit by starting to push the ice around. The lake levels coming up this spring have also been a big help in getting the ice to break free from the shore. At this stage, we are maybe only a day away from open wat

May 2nd Ice Conditions

The temps have been cool today with only hitting a high in the upper 40's, but we did have a brisk northwest wind, which really seemed to move some ice around. The ice is starting to break up in some places along some cracks, and the wind is able to push it a bit to where the ice works against itself and starts to break up. There is ice pushed up along some of the west shorelines on the islands and points just to the east of the resort along Regina Bay. Even though it was cool, wind is a big help to getting the ice out, as it puts pressure on the ice from the top, as well as gets it to move around. Should only be a couple more days

May 1st Ice Conditions

Breaking up more around the docks

Opening up just on the west side of the bay

The ice has really began to open up and move around. The large crack out in front of the resort has opened up even more, so only a couple more days and we should be seeing open water in Regina Bay. It has also begun to break up just out in front of the docks as well. We were noticing ice piling up on the far shore so the winds have been moving it around. My guess is Monday for ice out.

April 29th Conditions

The ice has changed colour again, but now to that grey that makes it looks soft and rotten. An air boat went by this afternoon and was breaking through wherever there was a crack, so we know it's getting pretty weak. Calling for an inch of rain tonight and tomorrow, so that will eat up the ice pretty quickly. Then supposed to warm right up into the 60's starting Monday. Hope to have it all gone by a week or so. My guess is May 4th to 5t

The ice has changed color again and is now a dark shade of grey. Seeing some separation from the shore in some areas, and most of the shallow bays have a fair bit of open water in them. All the small lakes are still half frozen and starting to open up, but won't be long till they will be free of ice. Temps today were cool only hitting a high of 43. We woke up to an inch of fresh snow on the ground thismorning too which wasn't overly pleasant to see first thing. But it had all melted by mid morning. Calling for highs to be in the mid 50's throughout the week. The lake has been rising steadily too, so that has been helping with lifting the ice and helping the thaw
