We've been having a fairly mild spring with most of snow more or less melted so far. The lake froze early in December at some near record high levels, but we had a milder winter with less than normal snow conditions, so the water levels have dropped significantly over the winter back to the level they would normally be for this time of year. They have slowed the outflow and are forecasting a slow rise to the water level's now, so that will cause the ice to loosen up some.

Ice conditions are still yet quite solid but there is a less than average ice thickness for this time of year. There is no snow on the ice, just a soft one inch layer of slush, then the solid ice beneath. An ice measurement this morning showed that we only had a total of 18" in the middle of the bay. With no snow to protect it from the warm winds and UV rays, it could be a relatively quick ice out. Forecast is to cool off for the next few days though with highs barely breaking the freezing point and freezing hard at night, and then staying cool and below normal through the Easter weekend. So that will slow down the thaw.

By just before noon Saturday, we were officially free of ice across all of Regina Bay. Here are some photo's to show! We had some good rains and northwest winds on Friday night and Saturday which pushed the ice out and disappeared. We couldn't get any aerial shots until this morning due to the strong winds and showers all day Saturday and wind and snow squalls/flurries on Sunday. The winner for this year's ice out contest with the closest guess at 11:00 AM was Peter S. Congrats Peter on winning this year's contest!

The ice is quickly rotting away and starting to break up. Chunks are moving drifting around, and we could have the ice gone by tomorrow. Mild temps today with some south winds forecast for this afternoon. Also rain in the forecast for tonight and tommorrow, so with a bit of wind that will start pushing it around. Getting very close!

The ice is really rotten now. Warm temps the past few days have been eating it up. It is now right black and cracks starting to form and open up. We have some light winds today so starting to move it around a bit. Can see it start to pile up on the far shorelines. Won't be long now maybe a day or two at the most.

It feels like spring has fully arrived with some pretty warm temps the past few days. We had some strong south winds on Sunday and temps all week have been very mild (can wear t-shirts) and forecasting to be in the mid-60's F throughout the rest of the week. The ice has been changing colour and turning darker greys throughout the day. All the small back bays are now open as well as the small lakes along the highway. Given the warm forecast and current ice conditions, I'm thinking we should be free of ice in about a week or so. Stay healthy and safe and watch our webcam to keep with the ice conditions.

Temperatures today have warmed up to 58F (15 C). It stayed above the freezing mark last night, so we are really starting see the gains today in the melting. Temperatures for the next 3 days are suppose to be similar to today with night time lows staying well above the freezing mark . The North shorelines and back bays are starting to show a little more open water, and have given an area for the ducks and geese to start swimming in now.

It really cooled off last night and thismorning we woke to -10C (18F) with the high just barely breaking the freezing point. The saving grace today was the winds died down to light, and the sun was out which has a lot of heating power in this time of year. The ice is still melting slowing, with seeing it start to rot around the shorelines. Lake levels are on the rise too and according to our LOW control board we have risen about 10" from when the lake hit it's lowest level at end of March, and still slowly rising. Forecast is to really see things warm up a lot by the weekend, so that ice will changing quick to a dark grey than get blacker as it rots more.

Remember midnight tonight is the deadline to have your ice out guesses in! Good Luck!!

Temps the past few days were on the chilly side with just getting over the melting point with strong winds. Yesterday we had SW winds at 30kmh (18mph) gusting up to 45kmh (30mph) and cool temps, and then today cool temps with strong NW winds at 30kmh (18mph) gusting up over 50kmh (32mph). But the ice is changing colour and starting to look softer and mushier on the top. Some of the back shallow mud bottom marshy bays have begun to open up. Forecast is to be cold tonight -10C (15F) and only just hitting the freezing point tomorrow 0C (32F), but slowly starting to warm after that getting up into the teens celcuis (mid 50's F) over the weekend. Water levels are also slowly coming up, so that has been loosening the ice up from the shorelines. Some of the bigger parts of whitefish bay have been seeing the ice shifting and ice ridges forming. End of day tomorrow is the deadline to have your guess in! If you haven't guessed yet, or want to update your guess, get it soon!

The lake is still pretty solid out there yet. We’ve warmed up a little bit today compared to the past few days. It was still freezing temps this morning, but the highs got up into the upper 40F’s with a strong south wind. Things were starting to melt again. Forecasting for rain and snow showers tonight and tomorrow then cooling off a lot tomorrow night (-12C or 12 F) with cool temps throughout the weekend and through Tuesday. Looks like could be Wednesday before we start seeing some warmer temps again. The lake level is rising though which is causing the ice to flood along the shorelines. According to the lake control board data, levels rose 5” last week and anticipate upto a 2” rise this week.

There hasn't been much for melting these past few days as the temps have been quite cool. Thismorning we woke up to -13C (14F) and the high didn't get near to the freezing/melting point with a crisp NW wind. But even with the cool weather, the sun's UV rays are getting stronger so the ice has honeycombed more. The snow is still tight to the south shorelines but the bays are beginning to look a little tough. Forecast this coming week is to stay cool and freeze hard again tonight, but then begin to warm up by the weekend.

The melting has really slowed down with the cooler temps we've been having the past 2 days. Yesterday the high was barely breaking the freezing point and again today. Temps dipped down below freezing last night and calling to get quite cool tonight too. We did get some dusting's of snow today and a cold stiff NW wind blowing across the lake. Easter weekend forecast is to be cool with hard freezes at night.
